Mississauga, ON (February 24, 2009: Despite real problems confronting immigrants and concerns related to social cohesion, Canadian multiculturalism is working well in comparison with other major immigrant receiving countries, says renowned pollster and social analyst Michael Adams. Adams, author of the recently published book Unlikely Utopia, presented a compelling set of studies and statistics at a community dialogue organised by Peel Newcomer Strategy Group (PNSG) at the Living Arts Center in Mississauga depicting Canada as a country that is optimistic and adaptable.
More than 120 people representing a cross-section of the community attended the PNSG community dialogue.
Speaking at the event, director of the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group Evelyn Myrie said, “Here in Peel we are working to create an inclusive community which we believe is one of the key steps in building a vibrant and resilient society.” Referring to the mandate of the PNSG, Myrie said, “We are working together to create a society embracing everyone’s contribution and ensuring well-being for all.”
PNSG was formed in 2005 by United Way of Peel Region in collaboration with the Region of Peel. The mission of PNSG is to champion a collaborative strategy for the successful integration of newcomers in the economy and community of Peel.
PNSG is funded by the Government of Canada through Citizenship and Immigration Canada under the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement.
