Peel is one of the fastest growing immigrant recipient regions in Canada with over one million people. As a result of the rapid growth of population as well as cultural and linguistic diversity in newcomer settlement, the region is committed to finding strategies to better address settlement and immigration issues.

Peel Newcomer Strategy Group was formed in 2005 by United Way of Peel Region in collaboration with the Region of Peel. In February 2006, United Way of Peel and the Region of Peel co-sponsored an immigration visioning and planning session to explore and define possible directions and actions to better address the community concerns and needs. Participated by some 136 individuals from different stakeholders, the result of the exercise was a preliminary vision for the settlement and integration of newcomers. PNSG has been launched in congruence with the emerged vision of the community consultation.
